Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 22, 2026
Last Updated: October 22, 2026
Amiko AI ("we," "our," or "us") makes Amiko, a language-learning app in which you practice by chatting with AI characters. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Amiko mobile application (the "App") and the amikoapp.com website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
In short: you can use Amiko without creating an account, and your progress and conversations are then stored only on your device. Your messages are sent to our servers and to AI providers so the characters can reply, but we do not keep a server-side log of them. If you sign in and use cloud backup, a copy of your progress and conversations is stored in your account so you can restore it on another device. You can delete your account and its backup at any time from inside the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account information (optional)
Signing in is optional. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive and store:
- Your email address (or the private relay address Apple gives us if you choose to hide your email)
- Your display name, if the provider shares it
- Which sign-in provider you used and a unique account identifier
- The platform (iOS or Android), app version and an app-generated device identifier of the device you signed in from
- Your learning languages and level, headline statistics such as your streak and the number of messages you have sent, and whether you have a Premium subscription
1.2 Your learning profile and the content you create
While you use the App, it stores the following on your device:
- Profile: the name you ask the characters to call you, your gender and preferred character gender, your native and learning languages, your level, and your settings
- Progress: lessons completed, flashcards, bookmarks, vocabulary you have saved, and your statistics
- Conversations: your chat history with the AI characters, the characters' replies, feedback and translations, and the short memory notes the AI keeps about each conversation (for example your plans with a character or things you have told it)
If you sign in and cloud backup is active (see Section 3), this data is also stored in your account.
1.3 Voice input
When you tap the microphone, the App records your voice, sends the recording to our servers to be converted into text, and then discards it. We do not keep your voice recordings. Only the transcribed text becomes part of your conversation.
1.4 Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play and by RevenueCat, our subscription-management provider. We receive your subscription status, purchase history and an anonymous RevenueCat identifier. We never receive your payment card details.
1.5 Usage analytics and install attribution
We use Firebase Analytics, Amplitude and AppsFlyer to understand how the App is used and which campaigns bring new users. These services collect:
- Device type, operating system version, app version, language and country
- Events such as which features you use, how long sessions last, and whether you start a subscription
- Install attribution data (which link or ad led you to install the App)
- On iOS, the advertising identifier only if you allow tracking when the system asks you
Analytics data is not linked to the content of your conversations.
1.6 Website
The amikoapp.com website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. The in-browser demo on the website sends the messages you type to our servers so the character can reply, and keeps the demo conversation in your browser's local storage so it survives a page reload. It is not tied to an account.
2. How Your Conversations Are Processed
The AI characters are powered by large language models that run on third-party servers, not on your phone. When you send a message, the App sends it, together with the recent conversation, your learning profile (languages, level, the name you chose, character preferences) and the AI's memory notes, to our Cloud Functions, which forward it to one or more of the AI providers listed below and return the reply. The same happens for voice transcription, text-to-speech, word explanations, translations and scene illustrations.
- Google (Gemini) for the characters' replies, feedback, memory notes, word breakdowns and explanations
- OpenAI for voice transcription, some explanations and read-along features, and the optional scene background images
- MiniMax and Fish Audio for the characters' voices (text-to-speech)
- xAI and Anthropic for some features from time to time
These providers receive only what is needed for the request: the text (or audio) being processed, the conversation context and your learning profile. They do not receive your email address or account identifier. Each provider processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy. Amiko does not use your conversations to train AI models.
Our servers do not keep a log of your conversations. To reduce cost and latency we do keep shared caches of generated audio, word breakdowns and example sentences. These are keyed by the text itself, are not linked to any account, and are shared across all users.
3. Where Your Data Is Stored
- On your device: by default, all of your profile, progress and conversations are stored only on your device. Amiko works fully without an account.
- Cloud backup: if you sign in and have a Premium subscription, the App backs up your profile, progress and conversations to your account so you can restore them on another device. The backup is stored in Google Cloud (Firebase) and is readable only by your account.
- Account record: the account information in Section 1.1 is stored in Google Cloud (Firebase) so we can locate your backup and help you with support requests.
- Servers: our Cloud Functions run on Google Cloud in Japan (Tokyo). The AI providers in Section 2 may process data in the United States or other countries.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the App: generate the characters' replies, voices, feedback and explanations, remember your progress, and restore your backup
- To manage your account and subscription: sign you in, confirm your Premium status, and respond to support requests
- To improve Amiko: analyze usage patterns, fix bugs and improve the quality of the characters' replies
- To measure marketing: understand which campaigns bring new users
- To comply with the law and protect our rights and our users
4.1 Quality review of conversations
To improve how the characters reply and to investigate bugs or support requests, a small number of conversations from cloud backups may be reviewed by our team. We look at the conversation content, not at who you are, and we do not share it outside Amiko. If you would rather your conversations never leave your device, use the App without cloud backup, or delete your account to remove your backup.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers that process it on our behalf: Google (Firebase, Google Cloud and Gemini), OpenAI, MiniMax, Fish Audio, xAI, Anthropic, RevenueCat, Amplitude and AppsFlyer, each as described above
- Apple and Google for sign-in and for purchases
- Authorities when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Amiko or its users
- A successor in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to your data
6. Data Retention
- On your device: until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App
- Cloud backup and account record: until you delete your account
- Voice recordings: not retained; discarded right after transcription
- Shared caches (generated audio, word breakdowns, example sentences): retained indefinitely; they contain no account information
- Analytics and attribution data: retained by Firebase, Amplitude and AppsFlyer according to their retention settings, typically up to two years
- Support emails: as long as needed to handle your request
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Use Amiko without an account. Nothing is backed up to the cloud unless you sign in.
- Delete your account. In the App, open Settings, then your account, then "Delete account". This permanently removes your cloud backup, your account record and your sign-in. Your progress on the device stays until you uninstall.
- Delete conversations. You can delete individual conversations in the App.
- Access and correction. Your profile and settings can be viewed and changed in the App. For a copy of the data in your cloud backup, contact us.
- Limit tracking. On iOS, decline the tracking prompt or turn it off in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. On Android, reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.
- Other rights. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK, California and other US states, Japan, South Korea or Taiwan), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, export or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to complain to a supervisory authority. We honor these rights for all users on request.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@amikoapp.com. We may ask you to verify that you own the account.
8. Security
Data in transit between the App, our servers and our providers is encrypted. Cloud backups and account records are stored with access rules that allow only the signed-in account holder to read or write them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
Amiko is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International Data Transfers
Your data is processed on Google Cloud servers in Japan and by the providers listed in Section 2, some of which operate in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on the providers' standard contractual safeguards for these transfers.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top, and for significant changes we will notify you in the App. Your continued use of Amiko after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
